Spicer ViewCafé selected by UDMS to power online view, markup and collaboration

ViewCafé will provide robust Web-based document collaboration capabilities for Step2000® e-process and e-content management software.

KITCHENER, ON, Feb. 7, 2001 - Spicer Corporation, first to market with Java 2 powered, thin client viewing, markup and collaboration technology, is pleased to announce the recent integration of ViewCafé with Step2000 from UDMS, a leading supplier of e-process (workflow), e-content management, and one-click Web deployment capability.

Step2000 provides totally integrated e-process (workflow), e-content management and unique application development power. It allows users and developers to work together in an object-oriented graphical environment to rapidly design e-content and e-process applications and then to deploy them in a Web-based environment with a few clicks of the mouse. Solutions can be created and delivered throughout the enterprise in a fraction of the time it would take with separate, "loosely-coupled" application development tools.

ViewCafé enhances the Step2000 environment with the ability to natively view and markup nearly 150 file formats such as CAD, vector, raster, text and office documents such as Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF files. ViewCafé’s Java 2 architecture offers a host of user benefits including full resolution printing, client-side rendering and the ability to cache the Java applet on the client’s machine, thereby eliminating the need to download the applet from the server each time ViewCafé is started.

“With robust, easy-to-use functionality and zero-client administration, ViewCafé dovetails nicely into the UDMS Step2000 solution,” said Louis Zeh, director of sales and marketing at UDMS. “ViewCafé’s powerful collaborative document review capabilities will enable Step2000 users to quickly and efficiently move forward with creating and deploying new products and solutions.”

ViewCafé’s intuitive tools facilitate rapid deployment throughout the organization – often with little to no training required for users. Moreover, the client machine does not require any software installation since the ViewCafé Java 2 applet runs with a standard Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

“We are extremely pleased to offer online document viewing, markup and collaboration capabilities to Step2000,” said Steve Coutts, vice-president of sales and marketing for Spicer Corporation. “We believe that as more businesses turn to the Internet to streamline their business processes, products such as Step2000 and ViewCafé will become increasingly more important to achieving their goals and increasing productivity and profitability.”
