IMS-21 stores scanned documents in the IMS File Server, as well as to the IMS Storage Subsystem (ISS). When ISS is implemented, the highly efficient IMS-21 design keeps track of the frequency of requests for each stored image and, once image-usage drops below a given threshold, the associated Server disk space is released. The infrequently viewed images remain available for retrieval from optical-storage, NAS, SAN or any network disk storage, whenever they are needed.

“Smart Panels” technology initiates the document-to-application linking process, which can be accomplished without the help of a programmer. An administrator connects business-application screens (“panels”) to images with an index of key data fields. The system’s document-display facility allows anyone using that application to call up the document image by pressing a single key or a mouse click.
